Translation with voice
Translate text, audio and video
Type a text or upload a recording. Dolmi translates between German and English and reads the translation aloud in a natural voice. You get an MP3 file, the translated text and subtitles. It works on a computer and on a phone.
What you can upload
- Text: type or paste it, up to 20,000 characters per translation.
- Audio or video: a file of up to 200 MB and 30 minutes, for example a voice message, an interview or a short video.
You choose the direction: from German into English, or from English into German. So you can translate a German voice message into English, like the one from your landlord, your child’s school or the garage, and you can also turn your reply, written in English, into German audio. Dolmi also translates German with Spanish, Portuguese (Brazil) and French.
What you get
| File | Contents | What for |
|---|---|---|
| MP3 | the translation, spoken | listen, forward, put into a video |
| TXT | the translated text | copy, correct, keep |
| SRT | subtitles in the target language with the timing of the original | add to your own video, for example on YouTube or in your editing software |
Six voices to choose from
Dolmi reads aloud in six AI voices: Achird, Charon and Algenib sound male; Kore, Aoede and Sulafat sound female. In the app, you can listen to a short sample of each voice first.
It’s always one of these voices, never your own. Dolmi doesn’t clone voices.
How a translation works
- Open Translate a file, choose the language pair, the direction and the voice, then paste the text or upload the file.
- Check the preview: Dolmi measures the length and shows the cost in credits and the first one or two sentences of the translation.
- Pay by card if your balance isn’t enough.
- Download the result as soon as Dolmi is done. You’ll also find the translation in your account later.
If a translation fails for technical reasons, Dolmi refunds the credits automatically.
What it costs
One minute of audio or video costs 1 credit. For text, 900 characters count as one minute. So a ten-minute recording needs 10 credits. Depending on the subscription or pack, one minute costs between CHF 0.10 and CHF 0.16. All options are on the pricing page.
Good to know
- An AI does the translating. For contracts, court documents or official papers, you need a certified translation by a person.
- Clear recordings give better translations. Background music or several people talking at once make it harder.
- Dolmi deletes uploads and results after 30 days. Download your files before then.
- For conversations in real time, there’s the face-to-face conversation with the phone on the table, and the live translator for video calls.
