2. What data Dolmi processes
When you visit the website. The server processes technically necessary data: IP address, time, page requested and browser details. They are used for operation and security and are not combined with other data.
For your account. With your first translation, Dolmi creates an account and stores a random identifier in a cookie. It also stores your chosen language, your balance and your transactions. Dolmi receives your email address from the payment process at Stripe.
For translations of text, audio and video. Dolmi stores your texts, uploaded files and the results (MP3, text, subtitles) so that you can download them.
In live mode and in face-to-face conversations. Dolmi passes the sound from your microphone and, if you use subtitles on a computer, the shared audio of the call to Google for translation. In face-to-face conversations and with subtitles on a phone, the microphone also picks up other people in the room. For billing, Dolmi logs the sessions with time, duration and credits used.
For the free minute. So that the free minute can’t be claimed any number of times, Dolmi stores a check value (HMAC) of your IP address for two days, created with a secret key. The IP address can’t be worked out from this value. It is deleted after two days.
For the device test. If you complete the test on the “Test your device” page, Dolmi stores technical details: browser and version, sample rate, microphone settings, measured level, dropouts and your rating “clear” or “not clear”. No audio is stored, and device names and device IDs are discarded. This information helps to make Dolmi work on more devices.
For payment. Payments are processed by Stripe. Dolmi receives your email address, the payment status and the subscription details from Stripe, but not your full card details.
For the launch notification. As long as subscriptions and packs can’t be bought yet, you can ask to be notified by email as soon as they can. Dolmi stores your email address only for this and deletes it after sending that message.
3. Purposes and legal bases
Dolmi processes the data to deliver the translations you order, manage your balance, process payments, meet legal obligations and run the service securely. Where the GDPR applies, this is based on the performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)), legal obligations (Art. 6(1)(c)) and the legitimate interest in secure operation (Art. 6(1)(f)).
4. Processors
- Google (AI services for speech recognition, translation and speech output): Google receives your texts and the audio of your recordings or live sessions for this purpose.
- Stripe: payment processing for subscriptions and packs.
- Hosting: the website and app run on a rented server at Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany.
Google and Stripe may also process data outside Switzerland and the EU, in particular in the USA. The transfer is based on the Data Privacy Framework (Swiss-US and EU-US) where the recipient is certified, and otherwise on standard contractual clauses.
5. Storage periods
- Uploaded files, texts and results: deleted after 30 days.
- Email address for the launch notification: deleted after the message has been sent.
- Account, balance and transactions: until you delete your account.
- Accounting records: for as long as the law requires, in Switzerland usually 10 years.
6. Cookies and tracking
Dolmi only sets cookies that the service needs: one for your account and one for your chosen language. There are no analytics or advertising trackers, no advertising networks and no embedded third-party content. Fonts and graphics come from Dolmi’s own server.
7. Your rights
You can request information about your data, have it corrected or deleted, object to the processing and ask for your data in a common format. You can delete your account at any time. To do so, write to hallo@dolmi.ch.
You can also complain to a supervisory authority: in Switzerland, the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC); in the EU, the authority in your country of residence.
8. Changes
If the service changes, Dolmi updates this policy. The version published here applies.
