Typical situations

A team in Spain or Latin America. Your developers sit in Madrid, your support team in Bogotá or Mexico City, and not everyone is comfortable in English. In Zoom, Teams or Google Meet, you speak English and they hear Spanish; you read what they reply as subtitles. That’s Dolmi’s live translator for video calls. If your Spanish is good enough to answer yourself, the subtitles alone may be all you need.

Clients and suppliers. The olive oil producer in Andalusia, the factory in Monterrey, the agency in Buenos Aires you’re briefing for the first time: calls where you want every detail of the deal, the deadline and the price understood on both sides.

Family. Your partner’s parents in Seville or Lima speak little English. At the family dinner, the phone lies on the table between you; on the video call with your mother-in-law, you read her Spanish as English subtitles and, if you like, she hears you in Spanish.

Travelling or living in a Spanish-speaking country. The flat viewing in Valencia, the handover with the landlord, the pharmacy counter, the reception at the doctor’s. The phone lies on the table and both of you read and hear the translation. That’s the face-to-face conversation, with no app to install.

Colleagues who are still learning English. A new colleague from Colombia in the restaurant kitchen, the carer from Peru who looks after your grandmother, the au pair who arrived from Spain last week: the first weeks go more smoothly when the important things are understood straight away.

Voice messages and recordings. The WhatsApp voice message from your partner’s aunt, the recorded interview, the video a supplier in Mexico sent: upload the file and get the translation as an MP3, as text and as SRT subtitles. It’s the simplest way to translate Spanish audio into English, and it works the other way round too.

The first minute of conversation is free. After that, you choose a pack or a subscription. Dolmi charges in Swiss francs, and all language pairs cost the same.

Good to know

• Dolmi writes neutral Spanish that reads naturally in Spain and in Latin America.
• In a face-to-face conversation, whoever wants to talk taps their half of the screen first: you tap “I’ll speak”, the other person “Hablo yo”. In a call, you choose your language and the language of the others, and the way you choose sets the direction: subtitles translate into your language, the voice into the language of the others.
• For English ↔ Spanish, Google Meet has a built-in alternative: Meet’s speech translation translates between English and Spanish, in a voice similar to your own. It’s included in Google AI Pro and Ultra and in several Google Workspace subscriptions, and it only works in Meet. If you have one of these subscriptions and only call through Meet, you don’t need Dolmi for that. Dolmi helps in Zoom, Teams and other apps, at the table and with files. • An AI does the translating. For contracts, court documents or official papers, you need a certified translation by a person.
• For medical consultations with a diagnosis, or appointments with legal consequences, a professional interpreter is still the safer choice.
